St Helen’s School is a highly academic school for able girls. Pupils consistently achieve outstanding public examination results and go on to prestigious universities of their first choice, including Oxford and Cambridge. In the Sixth Form, girls can choose to study either the International Baccalaureate Diploma or A Levels.
The curriculum enables every girl to achieve intellectual and personal fulfilment and to develop her talents fully. Staff are subject specialists and inspire the girls, encouraging them to study independently and develop good study habits through stimulating teaching. Girls study with commitment and particular importance is placed on the prompt completion of homework assignments.
Set in over 20 acres of green space, we offer excellent facilities including specialist facilities for Science, Design and Technology, Art, Drama, Music and ICT; a new state-of-the-art sports centre; a digital, multi-media language laboratory; an excellent library housing an extensive collection of books, ICT facilities, newspapers and periodicals; and well-equipped teaching rooms, providing a superb basis for learning. All girls study two modern languages together with Latin. Sport also features heavily throughout the school with girls competing at County and National level.
St Helen’s is a vibrant community with many girls taking advantage of the well organised extra-curricular activities which include concerts, plays, CCF and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. Through these activities girls discover interests that complement their academic achievements. High priority is placed on Careers Education: all girls take part in work experience, with those studying languages in the Sixth Form having an opportunity to work in Europe.
There is a vertical house system and close relationships with parents by formal contact at least once a term, either by written report or at a Parents Evening. Parents are welcome to contact the school at any time. Social contact is through the thriving Parents Teachers Association and close links exist with Merchant Taylors’ School.
We provide a friendly, secure and disciplined environment, where co-operation and mutual respect are highly valued along with integrity, self discipline, personal responsibility and respect for others. Girls are encouraged to give of their best, be tolerant and caring, and to make a positive contribution as individuals and team players. Above all, girls are encouraged to chase their dreams.
