Abbey Gate College is a well-established co-educational school for pupils aged 4 – 18 on the outskirts of Chester. Under the Headship of Mrs Lynne Horner, the school is undergoing a resurgence in interest and renewal of its core principles.
The College emphasises the importance of building self-esteem and a love of learning in a friendly and caring environment. The extra curricular programme provides opportunities for pupils to experience challenge and pursuit of excellence.
The Music Department is renowned for the quality of its choral singing, with strong links to Chester Cathedral. The choir sing annually at St Paul’s Cathedral and tour overseas regularly.
Drama, sport and the Duke of Edinburgh award are thriving and outdoor adventures in the Lake District and leadership courses help children in the Junior Department, Year 11 and Sixth Form to build confidence and team work.
A brand new Art and Design and Technology Centre opened in the Spring Term providing top quality facilities for all pupils. Creative Arts enhance the educational experience for pupils throughout the College. This development marks the 30th anniversary of the founding of the College in 1977.
A new Science laboratory and Sixth Form Centre will also be open for full use in September. The idyllic village location of the Junior Department at Aldford boasts extensive playing fields, purpose-built shaded area and ecology park; the juniors and infants have use of the extensive facilities at the Senior School.
We value each and every child, whatever their age or ability; the potential in every pupil is nurtured and encouraged. Abbey Gate College encourages pupils to develop their imagination, determination and aspirations in order to be the best they can be. Education is far greater than simply achieving super examination results; at Abbey Gate College the journey itself is of equal importance, providing a stimulating experience, widening opportunities and providing an education for life.
We are diverse in our activities and our pupils lead a full life when in the College. Their enthusiasm and varying talents are guided and encouraged; when they go out into the community we are confident that they are sensible and mature young people.
