The Junior School is located in a new building on a separate site a few minutes walk from the Senior School. In the same tradition, it aims for excellence, offering challenges to stimulate the enquiring mind and opportunities to develop individual talents and interests. Places, subject to availability, are offered in all years on the basis of entrance tests. Transfer to the Senior School is automatic, subject to satisfactory progress.
The National Curriculum is enhanced by the specialist teaching provided at all levels and by a subject-based timetable which includes French and Drama. In addition to Form Rooms, specialist rooms are used for Science, Information Technology, Music, Art and Design Technology. Junior School pupils also use the Senior School Music Block, Gymnasium and playing fields where there is a new multi-surface pitch.
There is also a School Nature Reserve which is about an acre of rare fenland habitat (including a reed bed, a flood meadow and a pond) of important conservation value, situated between the school playing field and the River Cam. It supports the Science curriculum in both the Junior and Senior School, enabling the girls to investigate and observe the natural environment, and to collect and organise data obtained through pond dipping, minibeast studies and a variety of scientific investigations.
Music plays a strong role in the Junior School where individual tuition is available on any instrument requested. Classes in violin or 'cello are offered free of charge to girls in Year 3, while other musical activities such as Choir, Chamber Music, Band and Recorder groups take place during breaks. Speech lessons are also available.
Other extra-curricular activities are offered, including Science, ICT, Gym, Art, German, Debating, Philosophy, Netball and Tennis coaching, Scottish Country Dancing, Judo, Seasonal Walks and Cycling Proficiency.
While providing the highest academic and extra-curricular opportunities, the Junior School recognises the prime importance of its pastoral responsibilities. It is believed that children achieve their greatest potential in a secure and happy environment where their individual needs and concerns are addressed. A thorough policy of care is implemented at all times, and effective liaison with parents is considered essential.
