Come and visit us at Queen Mary’s for it is the best way for you to find out more about the school. We would like you to experience for yourself the warm friendly atmosphere for which the school is renowned. We are an independent boarding and day school for girls aged seven to sixteen. In addition we have a co-educational Early Years and Pre-prep department for day children aged three to seven. The school is situated in beautiful countryside, close to Thirsk and the Hambleton Hills. Baldersby Park is a Grade I listed building surrounded by over 50 acres of landscaped grounds, sports fields and paddocks.

Our reputation as a family school is well founded: the school aims to be small and sufficiently flexible to meet every child’s needs. As a non-selective school we cater for a wide ability range.

Considerable emphasis is placed upon building individual self-confidence. We have some very able girls and our public examinations results are excellent. However, we also have those who struggle academically. All staff are trained to differentiate their teaching in response to the learning requirements of each pupil.

The school has a strong boarding tradition with an extended day and Saturday morning school for the older girls, but we have an increasing number of pupils who travel to school daily, some using the school minibus service. Many daygirls will stay at least one night each week, taking advantage of our flexible boarding arrangements.

All girls belong to one of our school houses – Byland, Fountains, Jervaulx or Rievaulx – and all inter-house activities are enthusiastically supported, whether they be music, games, debating, general knowledge, house prayers or participating in house entertainments.

We are a school of The Woodard Corporation, an Anglican foundation, which promotes Christian education and high academic and pastoral standards within all its schools. We have a Church of England Chaplain who leads our regular Chapel services. Four ‘corner-stones’ underpin the school’s ethos: hard work, trustworthiness, public spirit and good manners.

We actively foster the all-important partnership between school and parents; we recognise that this relationship plays a vital part in each child’s development and progress. Parents and children are all different and all have differing expectations and hopes of a school. We would be delighted to see you here at Queen Mary’s for yourself. You can be assured of a warm welcome.
