A Reputation of Success
Fettes College is one of the UK’s pre-eminent co-educational boarding schools with the hopes and aspirations of each of our students of central importance. We provide a broad based education that produces well-rounded, successful people and not simply successful students. The happy, purposeful environment of the College encourages the boys and girls to flourish and develop fully the skills and interests that they possess whatever they may be.
The quality of teaching at Fettes is outstanding and Fettes continues to be the leading A-Level school in Scotland. Our students achieve excellent academic results with over 80% Grades A or B at A Level. We teach students with a range of abilities and take great care to guide them towards appropriate courses leading initially to GCSE, and subsequently to A-Level or the International Baccalaureate. Our students gain entry to the top Scottish and English universities and we send up to 15 students a year to Oxford and Cambridge. Fettes students come from all over the UK and abroad and this diverse and healthy mix of backgrounds provides a richness that contributes greatly to our stimulating, warm and energetic community.
Fettes students aim high in sport and arts too. Excellent indoor and outdoor facilities coupled with top class coaching, has produced talented sportsmen and women representing national teams over a range of disciplines. We have a strong musical and piping tradition at Fettes with high levels of instrument tuition as well as many choirs and groups providing performance experience. Drama is offered as an academic subject as well as house and school plays throughout the year and pupil attainment in Art is exceptionally high with two of our students among the top 5 A-Level Art students in 2006.
As Fettes lies at the heart of Edinburgh, just 20 minutes walk from Princes Street, our students take advantage of the wealth of cultural resources on offer in the capital. They also have every opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, with a variety of expeditions in the UK and abroad. Fettes students can take part in a widely varying range of extra-curricular activities and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme is strongly supported at all levels. Charitable work and service within the community plays an important role in school life. We would be happy to welcome you to Fettes for a visit so you can truly experience Fettes for yourself.
