'Where you can do it all!'
Exeter School is a co-educational school which admits pupils at 7+, 8+, 11+, 13+, 16+, and other ages on a space available basis. The school is set within extensive grounds in the heart of the Cathedral City of Exeter. The Headmaster, Bob Griffin who joined the school in 2003, is a member of HMC. The school has its own Junior School, which is housed in a spacious building in the grounds of the Senior School; near enough to take advantage of all the facilities, yet surrounded by its own playground area and green space. The Headmistress, Mrs Alison Turner, joined Exeter Junior School in January 2006.
Pupils come from a wide area of South West England (Dartmouth to Lyme Regis) and mainly from Devon Primary Schools, traditional Pre-Prep and Prep Schools, for 7+ to 13+ admission, and from maintained or independent schools at 16+. Exeter School pupils, therefore, represent a broad cross-section of the community.
The atmosphere and regime of the Senior School are relaxed, caring and friendly, but academic ambition is encouraged and a good workrate and the highest standards of performance and behaviour expected. Almost all students go on to university, 40% following a Gap Year, and around 15 pupils annually take up places at Oxford and Cambridge.
The Junior School is a friendly, lively and happy environment where pupils are valued as individuals. Pupils are offered, in academic, sporting and extra-curricular terms, the widest possible range of activities. The Junior School choir leads the singing at the weekly chapel services throughout the year.
Although Exeter School seeks to attain high academic results, the emphasis is on the development of the whole person. The arts (regular major dramatic, musical and art events) and games (twelve different sports as well as outward bound activities) have a central position. The spiritual and moral dimension is not restricted to School Chapel activity but permeates much else besides.
The excellent facilities at Exeter School include an extensive new Library, a purpose-built Music Centre, Drama Studio, two IT rooms, Sports Hall with Fitness Suite and Dance Studio, heated Swimming Pool and All-weather Sports Arena and tennis courts.
We would welcome visitors either to one of our Open Evenings or for a more personal visit telephone the Headmaster's secretary, 01392 273679.
